#16 MONOCHROMATIC THE DC WAY

There is one combination that is near and dear to me.

One that I can never go wrong with.

One that is very understated.

One that says, ‘I know what I am doing.’

One that says, ‘I know what I am doing,’ by saying little but saying lots.

I have it down.

One colour with the same colour.

A solid with a solid.

Monochromatic.

No patterns.

No designs.

A pair of one colour shorts with the matching colour Polo.

It is a wonderful combination.

It is one of my favourites.

The reason why?

It is the combination that allows for something else to happen.

Something else to stand out.

It lets me bring in my two favourite accessories.

The belt.

The socks.

Oh man, it looks good.

Oh man, it is so easy to do.

I have not talked about accessories.

I was waiting for the right time.

Introduce you to some great Polos, some great Shorts, and a couple of ideas.

Get to this stage, and then introduce it.

A great coloured belt, with coloured socks.

It looks good, you feel good, and you ride ‘good.’

I don’t go ‘crazy’ when it comes to either.

For belts, there is no need to go expensive.

I am not saying a ‘belt is a belt,’ I know they are not.

There are some cool belts out there.

But for what I do, and for what I want the belt to do, there is no need to spend much money.

A $10 belt is an inexpensive and great looking accessory.

My favourite type of belt is the ‘Cut to Fit Canvas Web Belt.’

They are cheap, you can find them anywhere, and come in every colour.

I have about ten lined up, waiting for their moment.

Riding with a belt may raise some eyebrows, but I have never found it an issue.

It never ‘dug,’ and the buckle was never an issue.

As I said in a post before, ‘If I look like a million bucks, I ride like a million bucks.’

I do the same with socks.

But socks are funny.

They are personal.

What you want and look for.

More ‘touchy, feely.’

For me, a relatively thin sock with a tight band is what I want.

There is nothing more annoying on a ride than a sock that will not stay in place.

I like the ‘Crew’ length, and most of my socks are that length.

I have a few ‘Over the Calf’ as well.

…Depends on the mood.

I will get into socks in a separate Post, that will come.

When I want to put together a sophisticated, classic Monochromatic look, Ralph Lauren has always been my go-to.

He is hard to beat for that ‘I know what I am doing’ look.

The colours RALPH chooses are the classics.

To keep this look understated, it is nice to go with more muted colours.

Kind of, less is more.

Let your belt and socks do the talking.

One of my favourite ‘Monochromatics?’

Navy Shorts.

Navy Polo.

Light blue belt.

Light blue socks.

Haha, but as I wrote that, six other favourites came to mind.

One colour with the same colour, a solid with a solid, and a little accent.

Look out!
