#32 MALBON

Number 2 in the NICHE SERIES

It is funny, eh?

You hear a word for the first time.

You look into it.

That night you are at the movies, and an actor uses it.

Off-topic but on topic,

The Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, also called the frequency illusion, is a cognitive bias that affects how we think and process information. It’s a phenomenon where something you recently learned seems to appear everywhere, making it feel like it’s more common than it actually is.

Okay, so with that in mind, I knew that the next label in the NICHE SERIES would be a wonderful label, MALBON GOLF.

I have been going through their site, reading up about them, and bookmarking a couple of articles.

A little prep.

That kind of thing.

Then, ‘Badder-Meinhoff.’

They are in the news.

Not like world news, but Golf news, and in a very interesting and creative way.

‘The Masters’ took place recently.

MALBON GOLF works with a very good and accomplished Golfer by the name of Jason Day.

They ‘dressed’ him for the Masters at Augusta.

Oh man, so sorry, another off-track here.

I am noticing this happening lots lately, and not just with Golf. Unique, creative athletes leaving the ‘biggies’ to work with smaller talent.

On his first round, he wore a vest.

Augusta National felt that the vest was too ‘busy.’

They asked him not to wear it on his second round.

Tradition, respect for the tournament, that kind of thing.

He did, and he did it like a gentleman.

That is basically it for the story.

BUT.

BUT.

The vest got so much press.

Like crazy press.

I have to hand it to MALBON.

I have to hand it to Jason Day.

MALBON, I am sure, knew the vest would be noticed.

Noticed, it did.

Day, I am sure, knew as well.

What an insanely clever idea.

Brand awareness, a little fun, let it go until they were told no and literally pulled it off in both ways.

Now everyone who watched The Masters knows MALBON GOLF.

Now everyone who watched The Masters knows Jason Day wears them.

MALBON GOLF is based in Los Angeles.

It is owned by the wife and husband team, Erica and Stephen Malbon.

Their line of clothes is fantastic.

‘The brand has quickly gained broad popularity and recognition amongst creative, stylish, and active people due to its unmistakable branding and playful curation.’

They are speaking ‘DERAILLEUR.’

Their site is great.

I love their Polos.

They have some nice collaborations with other labels.

Lots of them from Jimmy Choo to Adidas.

A full line of Knit Polos right down to Performance ones.

A great collection of Caps, Bucket Hats and Toques as well.

Be sure to click on ‘Collections.’

I plan to purchase from them soon.

I am thinking of ‘That Vest,’ but I think I will let it ‘cool down.’

I have a promise to myself that I cannot purchase something new until I have received and worn the last piece I purchased.
