I do not want you to think I live in the past.
I am the opposite.
I get ‘hassled’ by my friends and family for moving ahead too fast.
But there is nothing wrong with looking to the past.
Historians look to the past to make predictions of how things may turn out.
I think the same thing can be said about style.
You see it all the time.
There will be a ‘red carpet’ for some event, and the woman or man wearing what they are wearing will say it is a reference to the ‘Spring/Summer 1952’ show of whomever the designer or year is.
The Designer ‘looked back to bring it forward.’
I know this is a general statement, but I have rarely seen this done poorly.
It is always inspiring.
I don’t design.
Haha, but I would love to.
But I do go back in time, and find designs, then try to emulate them.
Look at the photo that anchors this Post.
Guess the year?
1975, um yeah, 1975!
I like Pinterest, but I am not in love with it.
I find the best online trick for inspiration from the past, is to Google whatever you are looking for, then click ‘images’ not ‘all.’
It is incredible where this can take you.
Articles, more photos, designers, history, and so much more.
Okay, I am going to end this with a little more imagery than words kind of thing.
Designers who are,
‘Looking back to bring it forward.’
