This is going to be an easy post to write.
It is something I have given lots of thought to.
It is something I have been dealing with for a long time.
I still am.
I think I always will be.
Fashion Dilemmas.
As you know, I do not wear ‘The Kit.’
I have my style.
I ride in that and with that.
The whole ‘let your style tell your story.’
Because of that, I think I am more prone to Fashion Dilemmas aka ‘FD’s’
I am not talking about figuring out what to wear.
I am in control of that.
I am talking about a bigger Fashion Dilemma.
A real dilemma.
One that you, hmm?
One that you do not have control over.
It can stop you from wearing something.
Possibly for good.
Six Polos that I love.
Six Polos that used to be front row centre.
Six Polos are now sitting in the back of my closet.
The Fashion Dilemma?
What to do when that brand or their ambassador becomes controversial?
What to do when that brand or their ambassador does something that does not fit your ‘vibe?’
Does not fit your ‘story.’
Does not fit the ‘story’ you are telling.
I am not a ‘cancel’ guy.
This is not on that level.
It is on a level of ‘cancel’ all on its own.
I am not going to mention who these brands are.
I am not going to mention who the ambassadors are.
The first and most obvious ambassador that comes to your head.
It is not him.
I have two, and they both happened in the last two years.
I will start with the Ambassador.
A designer aligned with this person to create styles that are so unique, that if you wear them, people know who they are referring to.
It is incredible when you think about it.
Imagine creating a design on a Polo that has no words, and if you wear it, that person is who it is associated with.
Believe me, it is completely associated with him.
I wore that design, and people yelled his name.
But he did something, and to be honest, kind of still is.
But he also said some things.
Major things.
Things that go against my ‘vibe.’
Things that go against my ‘story.’
The other one is along the same line.
But I feel bad for the designer.
They had nothing to do with it.
And for sure, they wanted nothing to do with it.
Their iconic line was hijacked.
I believe the word is ‘usurped.’
Usurped by a group of people who are bad.
Like bad, bad.
Most are now in jail.
Two examples, but two examples that create the same dilemma.
I work on not being a ‘cancel guy.’
Everyone messes up.
Some more publicly than others.
It all boils down to one question.
Do I still wear them?
By wearing them, am I endorsing them?
But, haha, the Polos are so nice.
I love them.
And I still do.
But should I still wear them?
Should I fight?
Is it a fight worth fighting?
Is it even a fight?
But you see?
To me, it is.
‘Let your style tell your story.’
‘This is not the story I want to tell.’
Insert thinking emoji here.
‘Wear it OUT’
…But in this case, just ‘Wear it IN.’
