#79 ONE-LOVE

‘I am looking forward to wearing that again.’

I say that in my head when I come across a pair of shorts in my drawer in the middle of February.

I say that in my head when I come across a sweater in my closet in the middle of July.

One particular pair of shorts.

One particular sweater.

I want to talk about that sweater here.

I have talked in my past posts about my love of Sweater Vests and Cardigans.

I think what puts this sweater in a category of its own is its design.

It’s history.

It’s colour.

It’s no fooling around aesthetic.

This is how it is done.

This is the knit.

Cable-stitch heavy knit.

V-Neck.

Heavy cotton or wool.

Two coloured bands along the V-Neck, sleeve, and lower waist.

THE TENNIS SWEATER

You cannot ‘fool around’ with this one.

You cannot ‘cheap out.’

You have to ‘bite the bullet’ and go all in.

Your reward?

A sweater you will be wearing your entire life.

A sweater that gets better with time.

I used to be stuck in my ways.

The sweater had to be white or ivory.

The bands red and navy.

This began to change.

I began to see variations.

I was not sold at first, but as time went on, I was all in.

In fact, a nice variable is what I described above but reversed.

Navy with red and white bands.

 There is one I have.

I ‘Baby it,’ but I still wear it all the time.

The Tennis Sweater goes with everything.

I mean everything.

My favourite is with a great pair of jeans and a blue button-down.

…Shirt, untucked with attention.

On cool summer days, a white T-shirt and a pair of shorts in any colour.

…Shirt, untucked with attention.

I can honestly say that every time I have worn it, someone, a stranger or friend, will throw a nice compliment.

I am not looking for one.

They just come.

That is the beauty of it.

But there is one more thing that is beautiful about it.

As well-known as it is, you rarely see anyone wearing one.

I like that in clothes.

Familiarity yet a rarity.

A great combination.

Get one if you do not have one.

I promise, you will be glad you did.

This sweater is a ‘Game Changer.’

Spend some time.

Do some research.

They are hard to find, but they are out there.

This is an investment.

Go with your gut.

You will find the one you want.

It is usually the first one.

Oh, and btw, it is also called a ‘Cricket Sweater,’ if that helps with your search.

Have fun.

These ones are ‘pricey,’ but a good start to see what you like.
