It does not happen often, but in a way it does.
Wait a second here.
Who are you fooling?
It happens every time.
If I must be somewhere or meet someone at a certain time, I will always be there on time.
Like to the minute.
I will not be one minute late or one minute early.
My appointment will be kept on time.
My friend will never wait.
But it is what transpired before that time that I find interesting.
There are two scenarios.
The first one is that I have ten minutes to get ready, but I need twenty.
(Psst, rode too long.)
I will get it done in ten, and it is quite the ‘scene.’
But I will do it.
I will always allow enough time for the travel part of it all, but never leave enough time for the ‘ready’ part of it all.
The second one is the opposite of the first but ends up being the first.
I have lots of time to get ready, LOTS.
I get out of the shower, get dressed, have a beer, and then decide I don’t like what I am wearing, so I change.
And, well, this happens again, and while we are at it, for sure it will happen again.
Now I am running late, so now I have to rush.
And what always happens, and I mean ALWAYS.
I put back on the very first thing that I had on.
You know?
There is a third scenario.
I do ‘dick all’ all day.
Then I get in the shower ten minutes before I have to leave.
I have come to accept this, it is the way I am.
Why not just acknowledge it is going to happen?
Embrace it.
Accept it.
It makes things exciting.
Brush teeth, put gel on, and tighten the belt at the same time.
I think I work better when I have more to do in a shorter period.
This all goes on behind the scenes.
It is my little ritual.
I don’t think I would change it for the world.
You see, nobody is affected.
I meet my friend at exactly the time we are supposed to meet.
I sit down for my appointment at the same time as the others are.

A friend of mine says, ‘It is better to be ten minutes early than ten minutes late.’
I say, ‘It is better to arrive at the exact time you are supposed to.’
With a little bit of a private ‘PHEW.’
