#21 NEVER THOUGHT OF MYSELF AS AN ARMY GREEN GUY

As much as I love riding in an all-black Polo with black shorts, I love riding in colour.

It really comes down to my mood.

That ‘mood’ can be dictated by the weather, and a little math.

Blue sky + sunny days = Colour

Overcast + dark cloudy days = Monochromatic

I think it makes sense.

I do not give it thought.

It just happens.

Halfway into a ride on a sunny day, I realize I am riding in colour.

Halfway into a ride on an overcast day, I realize I am riding Monochromatic.

Some days I let the weather be the colour and go Monochromatic.

And others, I bring the Colour to the overcast.

A few years ago, if you looked in my closet or opened my dresser, you would see a theme.

Red, grey, blue, brown, white, and black.

All in different shades.

It worked for the longest time.

It still does.

But I have begun to experiment.

Bring in new colours that I have never looked at.

Wear colours that are new to my rides.

Four, to be exact.

Green, yellow, pink, and purple.

Ever since I did, a new world has emerged.

I wear them with my go-to colours or wear the new colours together.

A pair of shorts or Polo in my go-to colours, added to these new colours, and my riding wardrobe has increased exponentially.

When I am in a store now, instead of instinctively finding and buying it in, say, a blue, I dig around.

The same online.

It is easier there, you can just click on it.

Start small with a new colour.

Look at what you have and what you do not have.

Pay attention to what you see on the street.

It is the best place to ‘learn.’

A colour will start to emerge.

A colour will start to speak to you.

You will begin to see it more once you take note.

Then one day you will be online or in a store, and it will appear.

Promise.

That is how it works.

Let it come to you.

What I love about my new colours is the variation of shades you can find each one in.

Green especially.

I never thought I would be an Army Green guy, but I am now.

This is the beauty of riding in Golf.

Golf is doing these colours, and doing them well.

Endless colours.

Endless inspiration.

Endless choice.

It is hard to find it in the cycling world.

I have mentioned before, my goal is not to stand out, but if simply riding in a great polo and a great pair of shorts makes me stand out, it is happening.
