It is ON

It happened the other day.

It happens relatively often, but never this close to home.

There was a guy at the light as I pulled up.

We both knew once the light changed, ‘It was on.’

The problem was that I was returning from a long ride.

I was five minutes from home.

The light changed.

‘It was on.’

After a couple of blocks, I made a right onto my street.

So did he.

I saw my house.

I saw my house coming.

I rode past my house.

I could have stopped.

Called it a day.

Called it a great day.

But I did not.

‘It was on.’

I knew where we were going.

My road comes to a ‘T.’

You make a left, and away you go.

…for fifteen kilometres.

He was right behind me.

Then he passed.

I stayed behind him.

Then it was my turn.

When we were side by side, I thanked him.

I told him where my house was.

We had ridden right past it.

Because of him, my ride was so much better.

That it ended in a way that I did not think it would.

A way that was so much better.

‘It is on’
