#92 THE DOWNTOWN THING

I did the ‘Downtown thing’ for a while.

Perhaps a little longer than I wanted.

Perhaps a little longer than I should have.

But I did it.

No regrets.

Zero.

Met some great people.

Had some great times.

When I say I did the ‘Downtown thing’ for a while, I mean I wore a suit.

Shirt and tie.

‘The Downtown Thing.’

I liked it though.

It was easy to dress in the morning.

There were lots of choices.

Lots of decisions.

But they were easy choices and fast decisions.

This suit.

This shirt.

This tie.

Out the door.

Repeat.

I was into the double-breasted for a while.

Towards the end, I switched to single-breast.

They are both nice.

I love a great suit.

I still have a few.

Special occasions.

Special restaurants.

Special friends.

It is impossible to beat the versatility of a good suit and tie.

My selection is far smaller.

Just two suits now.

Lots of great shirts.

…and I hung on to my favourite ties that still hold up today.

I was given a gem many years ago.

MOSCHINO

It is covered in ‘Happy Faces.’

You don’t see them at first.

When I would be talking to someone, I could tell when they picked up on it.

I like that in clothes, not ‘in your face’ kind of thing.

A grey suit, the right coloured blue or white shirt, and a tie that says everything.

A form-fitting jacket.

The same for the pants.

And you know, I got into the ‘Penny Loafer’ thing at a very young age.

I never left them.

Timeless, classic, perfect shoe.

It takes the serious down one notch.

I often wish they would make a ‘Skate Shoe,’ the shoe I ride with, in a Penny Loafer style.

A great jacket for riding in the design of a blazer.

A matching pair of shorts with a cuff.

A pair of socks that means ‘business.’

Go for a LONG ride and stop at a restaurant for dinner that requires a jacket.

I don’t think there is anything sexier than seeing a woman in a suit.

I see it is ‘in’ this fall.

Women look so cool in menswear.

I love seeing a woman rocking a man’s suit.

But it is not any old suit.

It is how they wear it.

I was going to attach a few links to some great suits.

Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, ZEGNA.

Their suits are incredible.

I am not a $7,500 suit guy.

Haha, I mean, I would not mind being that kind of suit guy.

I am not.

For the way I wear a suit, and the kind of events I attend, a thousand dollars and less does it beautifully.

Long live ‘The Ludlow.’

Bring back the suit.
