THINKING IT THROUGH

I am not sure how you ‘work.’

What makes you ‘tick?’

How you process ‘things?’

But I am hoping that what follows is something you can relate to.

I have a problem focusing.

I am distracted by everything.

I am distracted by anything.

I start with good intentions.

Get myself set up at my desk.

A cup of coffee filled to the top.

Pen, paper, music, laptop, comfortable.

Five minutes later, I am creating a new playlist.

Then I am sweeping the floor.

Straightening a painting.

Opening the fridge.

I am not procrastinating.

In fact, I am looking forward to doing what I should be doing.

All I have to do is look up from my laptop, and I am ‘gone.’

It is not always ‘work.’

It can also be something that I have to ‘think through.’

Something on my mind.

‘Okay TJ, let’s think this through.’

‘Okay TJ, let’s get this work done.’

Start to finish.

Get it done.

But I figured out something.

How to get the work done.

How to think things through.

How to sign off on something.

How to get to a conclusion.

I shut my laptop, and I go for a ride.

Weird.

There are thousands of distractions and hundreds of decisions.

Yet, I can stay focused on thinking something through.

I arrive home and get the work done.

I get home with my conclusion.

I have a friend who loves to garden.

I am sure she thinks things through.

I have a friend who loves to swim.

I am sure he thinks things through.

I have a friend who loves to skate.

I am sure she thinks things through.

I am sure you have your ‘thing’ too.

‘Thinking Things Through’
