‘Life Imitates Art’
Always been a big fan of that one.
I have experienced it many times.
Been in it, witnessed it, and experienced it.
Art, film, book, theatre, it is all a source.
Talking, walking, riding, anything, it is all a source.
When I do, and I am in the moment, I find it hard to hold on to.
I find it can be fleeting.
Kind of like ‘Déjà vu.’
You experience it, yet you only seem to grab the tail end of it.
Almost gone the second you realize you are experiencing it.
Oscar Wilde is best associated with this.
‘Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.’
He felt that life craves the kind of expression found in great art.
Haha, okay, I have said all that, now I am going to take it down to its simplest form.
The ‘TJ Form.’
Basic.
I am a basic kind of guy.
Whenever I am on a designer’s site and I see the dropdown ‘BASICS,’ I am on it.
There was a cartoon I saw when I was a kid.
It was old by the time I saw it for the first time.
I was enraptured.
If I wanted to see it again, I had to wait.
Maybe a week or two.
Maybe a month.
But I would wait.
Wait and hope that that day’s cycle of cartoons would include it.
When it was, I would go up to the TV and kneel in front of it.
Nothing else existed but me and the cartoon.
I would watch it for the 47th time like it was my first.
It is just so good.
Not ONE WORD is spoken.
The music is everything.
I will do this quickly.
Man finds box, opens it, frog is in it, frog is a….
You know what?
I always put a little cycling video at the end of these posts.
For this one, I will place the cartoon.
I could not find the entire cartoon, but this will be enough for you to appreciate it.
Once you hear the song, you will never forget it.
Once you hear the song, the visual will always be the same.
I still break into the song with family and friends.
Steven Spielberg said it was the most perfect cartoon ever made.
I was on a ride last summer.
I stopped in an empty park to get a drink from the fountain.
I am drinking and hear the perfect, loud, ‘Ribbit, Ribbit.’
It was amplified.
Almost as if it was coming from a speaker.
I lifted my head from the fountain and looked left and right.
‘You gotta be kidding me?’
I used the ‘F’ word.
It was a very pronounced ‘Ribbit’ too.
Textbook.
I was not in frog ‘territory.’
There was only grass and a sewer.
The sewer was where he was.
His ‘Ribbits’ were amplified from the bottom.
I looked down the sewer grate and saw his green head and black eyes looking up.
The exact frog from the cartoon.
Seriously.
Life imitates art.
I crave the expression found in great art.
‘Baby, My Heart’s on Fire’
Insert top hat emoji here.
‘There is another way to ride.’
