NIETZSCHE

There is a dog on my street.

He has a great name.

Nietzsche.

His ‘parents’ are Philosophy Professors.

I know the dog well.

But I do not know Nietzsche well.

I remember a brief introduction to him in school.

Nietzsche came up the other day in a story I was listening to.

I was intrigued.

There was a blizzard going on outside.

I decided to go for a ‘little dive’ inside.

I am glad I did.

He is profound and quite moving.

I am not the brightest guy on the block.

I need a hand sometimes and have things explained to me.

But I was surprised.

I mean the man was a genius yet I understood what he was saying.

On first reading.

His thoughts and ideas left me in awe.

One in particular.

‘And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.’

I read this as Nietzsche telling us to dance to our own music.

To embrace who you really are as far as you can, and not pay attention to what anyone thinks.

It is really quite beautiful.

I don’t think he was trying to draw up a visual for this, but for some reason, I see what he is saying more than the actual words.

To be who you truly are.

Dance.

It is a powerful reminder to embrace individuality and not be swayed by the judgement of others.

It is easier said than done.

It is hard to dance to your own music.

To not give a shit what others think.

You have to really work on it.

Like work on it, work on it.

Then one day you realize you are not working on it anymore.

You are who you are.

You ride the way you want.

You ride what you want.

You wear what you want.

…And you are the happiest you have ever been.
