TEN KILOMETRES IN, YOU ARE ASLEEP

Do you fall asleep the moment your head hits the pillow?

I do, but I have a little phase every so often.

It takes a little longer.

I do not stress out about it.

I know sleep will come.

What to do while I wait?

The best thing of all.

Try and relive the ride I had that day.

Start to finish.

End to end.

Relive it in every detail.

Was that light red or green?

Every nuance of the route.

Riding on the dry side.

The paths, the roads, who you saw.

The woman and the beautiful dog.

It is incredible what details you remember.

‘Oh yeah, I did that part too.’

It is interesting.

You remember things that you would never have remembered if you did not do this.

‘Oh yeah, that little bridge.’

If you spend a lot of time on your bike, the rides can kind of morph into one big one.

It is nice to look back on individual ones.

Best of all?

‘Ten kilometres in, you are asleep.’

Insert blown-out candle emoji here.

‘There is another way to ride.’
