Let me set the scene.
It is a dark stormy night, and the power just went out.
Haha, joking.
Let me set the scene.
It is a weekday afternoon.
You are about halfway into your ride.
It is not busy, but everyone out is good-really good.
You are on your way to your back-and-forth spot to do some ‘back-and –forth.’
You make a left, do the little tricky spot through ‘Suck it in Gate,’ and just as you start, you hear the clicking of a gear a few metres behind you.
‘Here we go,’ you say to yourself.
You know that you have a half hour ahead of you before you get to one of those ‘slow down gates.’
You settle down and get into your breathing.
Half-way in, you think, ‘Okay, they are still behind.’
You know they are on you.
You keep it up.
You are doing fine.
You wonder how far back they are.
Are they right on you?
Are they a little back?
You look and listen for any signs.
A shadow, a sound, a sniffle.
Nothing.
The gate begins to come into view.
You put the brakes on as you approach it.
You wind your way through the gate and take a quick glance back.
Nobody is there.
There is no one behind you, and there never was.
You shake your head, continue on, and thank him.
‘The Headless Horseman Rides Again.’
Insert shocked emoji here.
‘There is another way to ride.’
