I put a post up a while ago.
It is called SAM.
The jest of it was that there are people you see on your rides.
People not on bikes.
People you see lots of times.
People who you become familiar with but have no clue who they are.
People who are just doing their thing.
There is a man I see.
He must live in my neighbourhood.
He sits on a bench where I start my rides.
He is elderly.
…And so is his big dog.
I promise you, the big old dog you are picturing is exactly how she looks.
Every day, they walk and shuffle together to that bench.
No leash is required.
I think the man could walk further, but his dog cannot.
It is as far as she can go.
They make it to a bench.
He sits down.
She lies on the ground in front of him.
Head up, taking in all that she can.
There is lots of action to watch.
They will sit there for hours.
I am not sure how they decide when it is time to return home.
I am sure they have a signal.
What an amazing man.
He is doing this 5% for him, and 95% for his dog.
Giving her what all dogs love.
To be outside.
What a friend.
I bet they just love each other.
It is more than a bet.
I know.
It shows.
‘5% for him, and 95% for his dog.’
Insert a dog bone emoji here and a big heart.
‘There is another way to ride.’
