THREAD THE NEEDLE

It is good to have confidence in your bike and yourself.

You know what your abilities are.

You know what your bike’s abilities are.

Then there are the rides when it gets thrown out the window.

You become fourteen again, and you are on a BMX.

It usually starts with one incident.

The incident comes up on you very fast, and you have no time to prepare, but you handle it with finesse.

You even impressed yourself.

A tight squeeze between two cars.

A perfect hop over an unexpected pothole.

A fast twist through a ‘slow down gate.’

A pretty glide through a yellow light.

A duck under a truck mirror.

A curb.

A perfect meander through traffic, and arriving at the light just as it turns green.

A construction gate that forces you left and right on gravel.

A race with a car to the next light.

…a light you get, and they do not.

It seems to be that most rides are ‘event’ free, and then there are the rides that are Red Bull Events.

‘Thread the Needle.’

Insert the folded arm emoji here.

‘There is another way to ride.’
